How did your time at the Naval Academy shape your writing?

The Academy drilled into me the importance of discipline, resourcefulness, and strategic thinking—all of which became essential tools for writing a novel that is both thought-provoking and grounded in reality.”
-PW Brown
What real-world events inspired the book?

“It all started with the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision in 2022. I wondered what life might look like for a granddaughter of mine in 30 years. The idea that established rights could be rolled back made me think: What else might be at risk?”
-PW Brown
How did your military background shaped your vision of the future?
“As an operational logistician, serving on ships, submarines, supporting joint missions abroad, along with my experience as a military analyst projecting future capabilities, I developed a skill to think through risks, choke points, and essentially assess long-term implications of the mission at hand. This forward-thinking mindset was crucial when I began to imagine a future America.” -PW Brown

Can you explain the research behind the Puritan Project?
“The ‘Puritan Project’ was born from a terrifying question: What if the government used reproductive technology to manipulate racial demographics? By controlling birth, they could control the future."
-PW Brown

Why is “We Are Human” is more than a subtitle?
“Because in a world where identity is engineered, we must fight to remember our shared humanity.”

“Sibi Aequum is Latin for “To Thine Own Self Be True”. It is in the crest of our class ring. The underlying meaning is the same message in the song that I copyrighted in October 2020 during the Covid Pandemic. The title is ‘Sibi Aequum’. The song rings the alarm bells for our country wake up and live up to the ideals as set forth in the Declaration of Independence.”
-PW Brown
"Sibi Aequum" is used several times in the book. What is the underlying theme or the message you are trying to convey?
As you journey through the pages of The Power of Fear, you will encounter a chilling vision of America's potential future—one where the phrase 'Make America One Again' serves as a smokescreen for division, exclusion, and the preservation of power. After consuming my work, I invite you to consider a different interpretation of these words—one that truly embodies the spirit of unity and inclusivity that America aspires to achieve.
In the world of our story, Dawson Nerium's campaign slogan 'Make America One Again' is a masterclass in doublespeak. It presents itself as a call for unity, but in reality, it's a calculated strategy to:
1. Homogenize the population based on a narrow definition of "American"
2. Suppress diversity and marginalize minority groups
3. Centralize power in the hands of a select few
4. Use fear as a tool to control and manipulate the populace
5. Redefine democracy to serve the interests of the powerful
Nerium's version of 'one' America is achieved through exclusion, fear, and the erosion of individual rights. It's a cautionary tale of how easily noble-sounding rhetoric can be twisted to serve immoral ends.
Now, let's step out of the novel and into our reality. As the author, my vision of 'Make America One Again' stands in stark contrast to Nerium's. It's a call to:
1. Bridge the divisions that separate us
2. Foster unity across all communities, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background
3. Promote inclusivity and celebrate our diversity as a source of strength
4. Encourage open, respectful dialogue across different viewpoints
5. Build solidarity among all Americans while respecting individual identities
6. Embrace diversity as the cornerstone of American identity
7. Cultivate empathy and understanding between different groups
8. Celebrate our common ground while respecting our differences
9. Create harmony through mutual respect and shared goals
10. Strengthen the bonds that make us one nation, indivisible
This vision of 'Make America One Again' doesn't seek to erase our differences or create a homogeneous society. Instead, it acknowledges that our diversity is our strength, and that true unity comes from embracing and celebrating our varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.
The Power of Fear presents a dystopian future born from the misuse of a unifying slogan. But in our world, we have the power to choose a different path. We can decide what 'Make America One Again' means to us and how we want to shape our society.
As you reflect on this story, I encourage you to consider:
• How can we bridge the divisions in our own communities?
• What does true unity look like in a diverse society?
• How can we celebrate our differences while strengthening our common bonds?
• What role does each of us play in fostering a more inclusive and united America?
The future portrayed in The Power of Fear is not inevitable. It's a warning, a call to action. By choosing empathy over fear, inclusion over division, and unity in diversity over forced homogeneity, we can work towards a America that is truly 'one'—not through suppression and control, but through mutual understanding, respect, and shared purpose.
Let's reclaim the power of unity. Let's truly make America one again—one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
